Being on "vacation" is the greatest. Of course, we each have our own way of celebrating that event. For me it represents a time for "out of the box" thinking. And when you wake up in the morning to a view like this, you know that the day is going to be a good one.
After breaking through some code and logic issues with a software package that needed modification to handle the load being expected of it, I talked with Coach to find out when the team was going to practice.
That my friends was where my thinking started to go astray. As said before, the weather was great and I was going to enjoy it. So I looked up Table Tennis in the Yellow Pages, found the 1 club that was in the city and routed my course of 6 miles or so to the facility. LUCKILY, a call was received from Coach and he said that Dan Cochran had gotten into town and he could give me a lift. By my calculations the destination was still about 3 miles away and with a backpack loaded with computer, camera, lenses and all essential electrical equipment to go with it, I reluctantly decided to accept the offer.
After being picked up I learned that there were 2 clubs in Vegas. The one I was walking to and the Las Vegas TT Club which was about 3/4 of a mile from my hotel.
As with all things though, walking along the strip gave me the opportunity to see some views that I would not have seen otherwise. And the view that presented itself was one of contrasts. A testament to the inevitable and a reminder to never rest too heavily on your past.
Even after MILLIONS of visitors, the Frontier was overcome by Trump from behind and an ever expanding Wynn gleaming of newfound gold on the front. All that remains is for the rubble to be taken away - so that something else can reside there in the future. Something else that will stand for many years and entertain more millions.
And speaking of something new - Las Vegas Table Tennis opened in April of 2007!!
Las Vegas Table Tennis
Players rotated around and Coach got quite a workout with Dave.
Unmet friends and reunions with old friends. It was great to see Dave again as he has been to our
SJVO (dating back to the early '90s) many times and is one of the true gentlemen in our sport. Our program
has grown stronger through the years due to the faith and support of gentlemen such as this.
In support of Tony and the Las Vegas Table Tennis Club - if you make it to Vegas - stop in to see them. You won't be disappointed that you took the time to join in on their fun.
DOES LIFE GET ANY BETTER??
Well, the arena will be opening tomorrow, so we will see.
