Joey Cochran, (16) of South Bend advanced to the
Open Finals, where he faced Soon Chian Lim (2217)
of Memphis, TN.

The championship match went down to the wire as it
was tied 2 games each before Chian prevailed 11-9
in the final game.

Penn State University on March 18th & 19th

South Bend Table Tennis Club Junior Team members Joey Cochran (2315), AJ Brewer (2138) and Daniel Seemiller, Jr (2027) competed in the 2006 Pennsylvania Teams Tournament at Penn State University on March 18th - 19th.

The South Bend team advanced through the preliminary rounds undefeated before losing 5-4 in the finals to the home state Pittsburgh team comprised of Randy Seemiller (2316), Michael Walk (2296) and Chip Coulter (2290), who are the first, third and fifth ranked men in the state of Pennsylvania.

Results - 2006 Missouri Winter Games in Springfield, MO March 4th:

South Bend Table Tennis Club Junior Team members Andre Khailo and Joey Cochran traveled to Springfield, MO to compete in the Missouri Winter Games.

Joey defeated Ludovic Gombos (ranked #13 among US Men) of Texas Wesleyan University 3-1 to advance to the Open Finals where he played 2001 US Men's National Champion Eric Owens. Joey took a 2 game to 0 lead before Eric rallied to win 3 close games and take the match 3-2.

In the 2300 rating event, Cochran also advanced to the finals before falling to Dinko Kranjac of Texas Wesleyan 2-3.

In Open Doubles, Joey teamed with Samson Dubina of Canton, OH and they advanced to the finals before losing to Owens and Gombos, 2-3.

US Open Team Championships in Reno, NV on March 3rd - 5th

AJ Brewer

South Bend Junior Team's AJ Brewer
traveled to Reno, NV to compete in the
US Open Team Championships.

The team, coached by Sean O'Neill, was comprised
of Amaresh Sahu (2215), Justen Yao (2221), AJ
Brewer (2138) & Joseph Wang (2080).

The team crossed over to Division 1 as a result of their early play and compiled an overall record of 5 - 6 while finishing 21st in DIVISION 1!!

AJ's overall record of 6 - 5, included a victory over David Sakai (2193) and no losses to anyone under 2300. AJ also managed to take a game off of Shu (Sara) Fu (2453), Freddie Gabriel (2530) and Bence Csaba (2622).
